On the front lines

A few issues back I worked on a series of portraits for WNC Magazine of local Asheville citizens involved in some way in the green movement. Two of my subjects were Charlie Wilson aka The Organic Mechanic and Tracy Davids the Executive Director of Wild South. The Organic Mechanic has instituted measures such as oil filter...

Forty Fingers

I was amazed during a recent assignment for Verve Magazine to photograph juggler Ingrid Johnson and the juggling troupe Forty Fingers and a Missing Tooth.  Juggling is truly a mix of art and athleticism plus good eye-hand coordination of course. I was recently assigned by Verve Magazine to photograph young Mary Tuten, a competitive dirt bike racer. I was amazed at her fearless approach to riding as she gunned the throttle and peeled out during our shoot. Her kind of riding is definitely out of my league. I’ll stick to the non-motorized form called the...

My family and I swam up here to Asheville from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Now I’ve entered a new phase of my photography career after 20 years as a photo staffer at the New Orleans Times-Picayune. I miss the excitement of Mardi Gras, Superbowl and Jazz Festival but enjoy taking on the challenge...
